Move It or Lose It
Skin Care
Talk about exercise and the idea conjures up images of losing weight, building muscle, and trimming thighs. But do you know that regular workouts can work wonders for your skin? Exercise plays a big role in how young and healthy your skin looks and feels.
Exercising increases circulation and delivery of nutrients to skin cells, whooshing away potentially damaging toxins.
Adding an exercise routine to your beauty regimen will infuse skin cells with oxygen as well as other nutrients. Both set up ideal conditions for collagen production which support fibers that help keep wrinkles and lines at bay.
When you exercise, your level of stress diminishes. And, therefore, your adrenal glands produce less of the male-type hormones that cause acne flare-up.
Regular exercise also increases sweating, which in turn can unclog pores and have a positive effect on breakouts.
Certain exercises can even help break-up pockets of cellulite - that cottage cheese-like skin on the buttocks, backs of thighs, and upper arms. By toning the muscles with workouts, yoga, Pilates or weight training, appearance of cellulite can be reduced.
Yoga, when done with controlled and conscious breathing, can tone up the entire body including facial muscles and produce results similar to a face-lift.
Most aerobic exercises, such as walking or bicycling, also have a ‘cleansing’ effect on skin. This helps remove toxins caused by cigarette smoke, air pollution, and those commonly found in grooming products.
