Exercises for healthy hair
Hair Care
Did you know that long hours in front of a computer or TV, bad posture, and lack of physical activity can make your hair brittle and lustreless?
These behaviours can cause poor circulation to the head, and when they are combined with the ill effects of age and stress the result is poor quality hair.
To fix the problem we often resort to things like changing our shampoo or using a conditioner. What we often fail to realise is, just like rest of the body, our hair also need nutrition and exercise.
To make your hair not just look healthy, but also be healthy, try these exercises:
A gentle pat can do the trick:
• First, stand with your feet apart and slowly breathe in and out.
• Then gently lean forward from the waist, bending your spine, until your head is just below the waist level.
• While keeping your legs straight, gently pat your scalp with your knuckles for 30 seconds.
• Now very slowly raise your body and repeat the patting in an upright position.
• Repeat 5-7 times.
Move it for the healthy hair:
• Stand straight with your feet apart and breathe in and out slowly.
• Place both your hands on your hips and look straight ahead.
• Now, slowly turn your head to the right five times and to the left five times.
• Bring your head back to the original position.
• Now, lift the head five times upwards and five times downwards looking towards your chest.
• Bring your head back to the original position.
• Slowly roll your head in a circle in a clockwise direction five times. Repeat in a counter clockwise direction.
Tug of Hair
• Stand straight with your feet apart and breathe in and out slowly.
• Lean your head forward and grasp a clump of hair close to your scalp.
• Tug firmly at the clump of hair, relax your grip and then tug again.
• Repeat these steps about three to four times.
• Proceed to do the same to your entire scalp.
• Don’t be too harsh while tugging your hair.
Touch your Toes
• Stand with your feet apart and breathe in and out slowly.
• As you breathe in, lift both arms at the same time.
• Stretch your arms upright and gradually, while bringing them down, release your breath and try touching your toes.
• Count five, without breathing in. Once done, gradually breathe in while coming up and taking your arms upright again.
• While standing straight, gently place your arms on your sides while breathing out.
• Repeat these steps at least six times daily.
These exercises encourage flexibility of the neck and back, which in turn promotes circulation to the scalp. This provides better nourishment to the hair follicles and results in healthier, more voluminous hair.
