Acne is a skin condition caused by inflamed hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Areas most susceptible to acne are the face, neck, chest, back, and shoulders.

Besides clogged pores, food allergies, hormonal changes, wrong food habits and improper skin care can also lead to acne and pimples, as can failure to drink enough water.Though difficult to resist, acne and pimples should never be squeezed because this can cause scarring. Instead, try these home remedies to prevent and treat acne and pimples.

• If you figure out that food allergies are triggering off the problem, the solution is rather simple – eliminate those foods from your menu.

• Ensure a well-balanced diet and drink at least six to eight glasses of water every day.

• The skin should be kept clean and free of bacteria at all times. Wash the skin with antibacterial soap twice a day.

• Bed linens should be cleaned regularly in order to avoid clogging pores with dust, dead skin, and cosmetic products.

• Aloe Vera oil is an excellent natural skin healer. It is helpful in prevention and cure of acne, if applied regularly.

• Taking vitamins and other supplements is also beneficial in the fight against acne.

• Taking two teaspoons of brewer’s yeast and 400 milligrams of chromium every day works for some.

• Grind nutmeg with raw milk and apply on the affected area. This helps removing pimples without leaving scars.

• Mix 3 tablespoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Apply this paste on the pimples at bed time and keep it overnight.

• Mix 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder. Apply daily for 7 days.

• Make a paste by grinding orange peel in water. Apply daily for 7 days.

• Rub fresh garlic on the affected area regularly.

• Mix 1 tablespoon groundnut oil and 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice to prevent acne and pimples.

• Apply fresh mint juice over the face every night for the treatment of pimples, insect stings, eczema, scabies, & other skin infections.

• Make a paste of fresh fenugreek leaves in water. Apply on the face every night for 10-15 minutes and washed with warm water. This will prevent pimples, blackheads, and wrinkles.

• Applying juice of raw papaya helps cure pimples.

• Add fresh lime juice to a glass of boiled milk. Use daily as a face wash for pimples.

• Mix lime juice and rose water in equal portions. Apply on the affected area. Keep for 1/2 hour and wash it off with lukewarm water. It helps prevent acne.

• Apply ripe tomatoes pulp on pimples and kept up to 1 hour, then wash.

• Apply cucumber leaves or grated pieces for acne cure.

In addition, to unclog your pores and keep your skin clean, try one of the following:

• A steam shower is also helpful in the fight against acne by opening up the pores and, removing dirt and access oil from the skin.

• Boil a pot of water and place your head over the vapours for about five minutes. It helps unclog the pores.

• Alternatively, you can place a warm washcloth directly on the face. This also opens up the pores.
