Sharing Combs and Towels

Healthy Living
Healthy Habits

When you share a comb or a head towel – you might be sharing more than that. You might be sharing some germs, infections and lice. So, for sake of your crowning glory’s health do not ever share combs and towels.

Sharing combs

One of the most common sources of parasitic infections is sharing combs with those infected with these infections. Combs are the easiest way of transferring lice, lice eggs and other infections, including skin infection of scalp, to another person.
Thinking of how to avoid this in your next visit to your hair salon? So, if your hair salon does not sterilized or disposable combs, its time to look for another one. However, if you would like to stick to the same place, the only choice you have is to carry your own comb/s every time you visit this hair salon.

Sharing towels

Not as big a threat as combs, but sharing towels can be as infectious as sharing combs is. In fact, scalp infections such as follicultis – the inflammation of hair follicles can spread through sharing of towels more readily.

Cleaning your combs and towels

Even your personal combs and towels require proper cleaning to keep infections at bay. Here is how you can make sure that they are not only clean but also germ free:

- Pour some hot water in a tub, add a bit of shampoo, foam it up and drop your combs and hair-brushes in it overnight. Next morning wash them with clean water and if possible, leave them in the sun for some time for the sunrays to disinfectant them and destroy any germs that might have survived.

- If you or someone else in your family has a hair infection or lice problem, do not wash the head towels used by you/them along with other clothes. Soak your/their head towels in hot soap water separately for about an hour and wash these thoroughly under running water. After this you can either wash them with other clothes or simply dry them in the sun.
